# Preparation steps:

01 - Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook penne pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water, then drain the pasta.

03 - Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 2 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until aromatic.
04 - Pour in crushed tomatoes, dried Italian herbs, and red pepper flakes if desired. Let the mixture simmer for 3 minutes.
